Okinawa, Japan

Okinawa, Japan.

What significance does Okinawa, Japan have and why does this post look like a Geography textbook page?  Simple.  Okinawa, Japan has a very special distinction:  this is the place, out of all the places on earth, where the most centenarians live.  So, if we’re looking at a series of posts that’ll help us live to be 100 – we’d be short-sighted not to take a peek into this beautiful part of the world.  After all, they’re doing something right and could probably teach us a thing or two, or 6.

  1. The residents of Okinawa eat a low-calorie diet.
  2. The bulk of their diet is made up of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, oily fish, and soy.
  3. They don’t have a lot of milk or dairy products in their diet.
  4. They take part in activities that are relaxing, yet at the same time deliver cardiovascular benefits.  Some of these activites are gardening, karate, traditional dance, and walking.
  5. The people of Okinawa have a strong belief in prayer and take a sense of pride in their community.
  6. Okinawans shake of stress easily.

Sounds like a recipe, not just for longer living, but for better living as well.
