Do you idolize Idol, love Lost, crave CSI, or ogle the OC? If fitness is on your mind, you can actually make the hour long show of your choice work in your favor.
Every hour long television program contains approximately 6 commercial breaks. Each break lasts about 3 minutes each…..so if you start shakin’ it while breakin’ it you’ll sneak a workout into your day, without having to gobble up any extra time.
Of course, if you’re one of the few who only has one show a week, it won’t do you a whole lot of good! But if you tune in at least three times a week, you’re off to a great start.
What do you do during these much ballyhooed breaks? Doesn’t really matter, as long as you’re moving. Do sit ups, jumping jacks, run in place, twist….freak out the cat and run around the house…. Just move. If you’re like me, you’ll find that you continue exercising even when the commercials end. Put on your comfies and get ready to shape up.
You could even use hand weights if you’re so inclined. (I actually bought some but have found them to be too heavy, so they’re lying in the floor and they’ll remain there. Until my husband moves them.)
I think there are several reasons the Couch Potato Workout is effective. One, of course, is the fact that calories are burned that otherwise would get all fat and happy. Another is that when you’re moving and working out, you’re far, far, far less likely to be participating in that other couch potato sport - seeing how much you can eat without passing out.
Looking forward to Idol - Simon makes me furious, so I really pick up the pace. One night he slurred both Bo and Constantine - my legs were sore for days.
