“Habit is habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.” ~ Mark Twain
This is one of my favorite quotes about habits and it isn’t very surprising that it’s from one of the brightest minds to ever live, Mark Twain. Anyone who has ever tried to break a bad habit (let me tell you, I have a French fry habit that may just be my companion for life!) knows that it’s impossible to simply throw it out with the trash. I mean, you could try but it will almost always find its way back into your home.
Homing pigeons should return to roost as well as bad habits!
Not only should each individual bad habit be coaxed slowly and methodically out the door, we should always try to remember to deal with one bad habit (and/or implementing a new good habit) at a time. I think that’s why New Years Resolutions often fail. We aim at too many targets… forgetting we have but one arrow.
I wish you the best of luck in making and breaking any habits you have in your sights. You look perfect to me but if you have any you want to make or any you want to break, I wish you all the best. Take them one at a time, be patient with yourself, and when you cave in and have an order of fries at Culver’s, don’t beat yourself up. You can have the coleslaw NEXT time! (Sorry, that last one was for me.)
~ Joi (“Joy”)
P.S. Anyone else craving Culver’s now??
