18 Best Mental Health Apps To Try In 2020 (Inforgraphic)

October 16, 2019 by Joi Leave a Comment

I can remember the first time I heard the word “apps.” I was almost angry at my daughters for telling me about yet another new-fangled thing I had to learn about and keep up with!

Not even a week later, I had downloaded and was joyfully using even more apps than the three of them had put together!

They were wonderful then and they’re even better now. There is a wealth of information, inspiration, and motivation in the world of apps – but it goes deeper than that. The right apps can help you do everything from remembering your medications to destressing and releasing anxiety.

The following infographic (which is outstanding, by the way) can point you in the right direction when it comes to apps dealing with mental fitness and health, stress, visualization, habits, and many others.

Elephant App: Review of a New Habit-Forming App

March 13, 2017 by Joi Leave a Comment

Elephant App: Habit Changing App
I recently heard about a beautiful new “Reminder” or “Habit Changing” app that can help you with a few of your New Year’s Resolutions…. oh, come on, surely you remember those.

Elephant is a visually beautiful and clever habit-changing app for Apple Watch and iPhones that gently reminds users to practice a new habit you’re trying to develop throughout the day. While it is free to download – know that it does only come with three habits installed: Drink more water, Be More Mindful, and… quite frankly, I don’t recall the third because, after choosing the “Drink more water” option and setting my reminders, the other options disappeared.

Elephant lets you:

  • Pick a habit you want to set in stone.  Or create your own.
  • Choose how often you want reminding each day.
  • Send gentle notifications straight to your watch or phone.

The Good News

This app, as is (as in free) is perfectly wonderful if you are looking (as I was) for reminders to drink more water throughout the day. It’s also great if you want to be more mindful or as I like to call it, if you want to remind yourself to live in the moment rather than hurrying off to the next one.

You can set reminders throughout the day (a set number of times) – they will then appear as a notification telling you to “Drink Water” or “Be More Mindful…” As someone who struggles to make herself drink more water, this has really come in handy for me. When my iPhone reminds me to drink more water, I do just that.

Simple!

The Less Than Perfect News

I feel silly calling such a small amount of money “less than perfect,” but if you want to truly enjoy the functions of this app – as in choosing your own habit (or, say, setting a reminder for vitamins, supplements, or medications), you’ll want to pay for the full version.

I cannot give you any information on the paid version, as I do not have it.  For example, I don’t know if you can (with the full, paid version) choose more than one habit or not. As most of us are working on multiple habits, I would hope so!

From Elephant: Elephant is free to download and comes with three of the most common habits pre-installed.  For a one-off in-app purchase of £0.99, users can unlock the full power of Elephant, allowing them to create custom habits and increase the number of times they can be reminded each day from 10 to 60 times.
