There are seemingly hundreds of belief systems and religions in the world. There are so many that entire college courses are taught to straighten them all out. Many health professionals need to be educated about different religions, so they can treat any given patient with complete respect, by honoring his or her beliefs.
I’ve never taken such a course and can, honestly, only speak of the one belief that I do know something about. Since there are a lot of questions surrounding it, I thought I’d write an article and attempt to give individuals the information they’re looking for; the information they need.
Christians, such as myself, base our lives upon one truth: God sent his Son, Jesus, to the earth to live amongst men and women. He was then sacrificed for the sin of the world. Sin entered the world through the Garden of Eden and the One who had never sinned, himself, had to pay the price that came with it. Today, all we have to do is to believe. That’s just about it! We have to read the verses in the Bible that tell about Jesus and what He did for us. Then we have to apologize, through heart-felt prayer to God, for our sins. We don’t have to name them one by one (doubtful that any of us have so few that we COULD name them all if we had to!) – we simply have to tell God that we are sorry for the sins we have commited (lying, cheating, stealing, coveting…). Then we ask Him to forgive us and ask for Jesus to come into our hearts and make us a Child of God. Something really beautiful is this: He’s eagerly waiting to do just that. The Bible tells us that the angels rejoice and sing each time a person enters God’s family.
Once Jesus has come into your heart, you are a child of God forever. Once saved, forever saved! The prayer needn’t be repeated ever again. Naturally, when we mess up in the future, we should apologize to God and try VERY HARD not to mess up agaan, but the remarkable thing is that, even if we do mess up – we never lose our salvation.
In the Old Testament, when people sinned, they had to make an offering to God to seek forgiveness. EACH time they sinned, it cost them another offering. The offering God made was a one time deal! This is why you’ll often hear of Jesus being referred to as the Lamb of God. HE was the offering for the world.
